The Flow treatment program

More than half of all those suffering from symptoms of depression are never diagnosed or treated. Worldwide, that amounts to more than 175 million individuals.

Whether you’ve tried many treatments that didn’t work, or are just realizing for the first time that you may be experiencing depression, we want to share with you a new option for treating your symptoms. Flow Neuroscience combines two highly-effective methodologies into one common-sense approach. You’ll simply follow along as the app guides you through the healing process.

Multidimensional treatment
The treatment program combines two proven-effective components to create a holistic solution targeting both the physical and behavioral elements of depression. One component is transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a brain stimulation technique. It comes in the form of a comfortable headset that delivers a gentle, barely noticeable, direct current to targeted areas of the forehead. Research on tDCS started in the early 1960s, but recent advancements have shown that it is especially effective for treating depression. tDCS is a safe, scientifically-proven method for increasing activity in the left frontal lobe of the brain–an area of high activity in individuals with a positive outlook on life. Just as physical patterns must be interrupted, behavioral patterns also need to be addressed—that is why our users combine their tDCS treatment with behavioral therapy through an engaging, personalized app.

Who Can Benefit
If you experience symptoms of depression persistently for two weeks or more, you are an ideal candidate to benefit from our treatment. If you are currently experiencing more intense symptoms of depression that are an immediate threat to your health and wellbeing, you should consult your doctor for urgent help.

Who should not use tDCS
You should not use tDCS if you have experienced epileptic seizures, manic states, have a cardiac pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, or other implanted metallic or electronic device. You should also not use the brain stimulator if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as this has not been studied extensively. We encourage you to consult your doctor if you have a question regarding your specific condition.

What to Expect
Your initial treatment period will last approximately six weeks. During this time, you will sign in daily to the app, an engaging, customized platform that guides you through various challenges and practice exercises that, when practiced over time, can help reduce and eliminate your symptoms. You’ll also be instructed to use the tDCS headset 5 times a week for 2 week, 30 minutes each time, while performing specialized cognitive tasks in the app. After this initial period you’ll only need to use the headset twice per week for four more weeks.

We makes things easy—you just need to log in, wear the headset, and do your best to complete your challenges and practice exercises. Challenges are assigned at various levels of complexity based on your current abilities and readiness to advance.

Other users may find that they experience a more gradual shift in their daily outlook and energy level. While everyone is different, the holistic elements of the treatment system ensure that every user is able to benefit in their journey toward managing depression in a healthy way.
